Researchers gathered information from more than 3,000 drivers who were involved in auto crashes and compared that to a group of 6,000 drivers who were not involved in a crash. The researchers wanted to see how alcohol use and the use of prescription and illegal drugs affected the risk of being in a crash, but the only drug that showed up in the study participants was marijuana. Marijuana was the only category of drug for which study findings reached statistical significance, the NHTSA said. Of the 3,000 crash-involved drivers, 66% were involved in property damage only crashes, 33% were involved in crashes that caused injury, and 1% were involved in fatal crashes. Are Marijuana Users More Likely to Crash? Findings of NHTSA crash risk study included: Drivers with a .08 alcohol level were 4 times more likely to crash compared to sober drivers.Drivers with an alcohol level of .15 were 12 times more likely to crash.Marijuana users were 25% more likely to crash.Age and gender could account for the increased risk for marijuana users. The 25% increase in the risk of having an auto crash for marijuana users was seen in only one group - young males, a group that is statistically at a higher rate of having highway crashes. Therefore, the NHTSA plans more research to determine how marijuana affects drivers. Previous studies using driving simulators and test tracks have found that at sufficient dosages levels marijuana affects the risk of auto crashes. The 2015 crash risk study did not control for factors such as the amount ingested, the potency ingested, prior experience with marijuana, and individual differences in response to marijuana. New Challenges for Highway Safety The trend toward increased drugged driving poses challenges for those involved in highway safety. Researchers have developed a deep body of knowledge about the link between drinking, driving, and risk. We know drunk driving kills, NHTSA Administrator Mark Rosekind said in a news release. The combined message of these two surveys is that our work to understand and combat drunk driving is paying off, but that we have much to learn about how illegal drugs and prescription medicines affect highway safety â€" and that developing that knowledge is urgent, because more and more drivers have these drugs in their systems.

Repetition is key in this aspect because this is the only way we can make sure to finally throw the data into the long term memory compartment of our brains and make sure that it stays there. When studying f ormulas, it may help to study with a companion familiar with the formula in case you need help. By following this method of study, study load during exam week will tend to lighten as data will be pre memorized and understood. Another method of a good study style is doing advance reading and research on your notes. By following the course syllabus, you have a basic understanding of the lesson beforehand and can do advance research on the topic in order to make sure that you are well prepared for class discussions and possible surprise questions during any exam. One of my eccentricities when reviewing for an exam is that I wear ear plugs while studying if I must study in a public place. This is because the ear plugs block out any other discussions that might interfere with my memorization and analytical readings. Although some students find that having some relaxing music to study by helps them relax and memorize their notes better. I won’t disagree with this method of study because as a student, you never really know what may work. I once had a classmate who sang whole songs to herself during exams because she had placed codes to answers within her favorite songs to help her remember people, places, dates, formulas, and the like. Strange as it sounds, she actually scored A+ and B’s in her tests, so I guess there are some strange study methods out there that actually do work. Highlighting words in your textbooks also works although I do not believe that it is something that students should be used to because what we highlight i n the books, may not be included in the exam and the ones we don’t consider important facts or figures are included in the exam. Professors are tricky in that way and students have to be aware of it. So memorize, analyze, and understand all the data instead in the event that the professor gives you an essay type test   that requires you to explain a formula or event in history. It also does not hurt to be prepared for trick questions.   Never think that you already know what the contents of a test may be. One can never be fully prepared for the exam method, but one can always be well armed with the knowledge to handle any kind of exam. This is why study groups can also be considered an effective studying style. Together, a group can create mock exam types and learn from each others errors. It is also important to relax and forget the books on week-ends because it has been the brain and the body do its best work after a period of rest.
